This workshop provides participants with an overview of the conceptual and theoretical frameworks that form the foundation for community academic collaboration strategies: Community Mistrust; Mazeway Theory: Systems of Oppression. Over the course of the workshop, participants will discuss ways to use scientific research to effectively support grassroots environmental leaders and community stakeholders in their efforts to address environmental injustice and improve related community level adverse health outcomes.

Oct 19 Workshop 2: Community Capacity Building: Using Data to Advance Environmental Justice

This workshop will familiarize participants with 7 publicly available, federal government agency developed, environmental justice data tracking tools: Climate and Environmental Justice Screening Tool (CEJST); Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) EJ Screening and Mapping Tool; EPA Air Quality Index (AQI); National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Earth Science Data System; National Weather Service (NWS) Heat Risk Tool; Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Environmental Justice Dashboard; CDC Heat and Health Tracker that community stakeholders can use to identify, monitor and address existing and emerging environmental threats.
