As head of Community Relationships Nicole cultivates strong connections with communities and organisations who support relationships with nature and who consider the barriers to engagement for people of colour. Her role promotes and delivers Wild In The City’s core programmes across London and the UK.
One aspect of Nicole’s role is in acting as a liaison between Wild In the City and its members: from the engagement of POC members valuable contributions to Wild in the city’s Annual festival to increasing member participation in monthly hikes and natural history events.
Passionate in supporting the continuity of Wild In the City’s free Nature Connectors programme for POC communities who want to nurture their relationship with nature, Nicole co facilitates on this programme which teaches woodland living skills, wildlife identification, traditional crafts and in-depth conversations reflecting on our relationships with nature as people of colour. She is enriched by the insights on themes around land, identity and belonging and the alliances and safety that develop when a group are taught by people who look like them.
Nicole’s role extends to supporting volunteers who have completed the Nature connectors programme and wish to deepen their skills and connection with nature by attending a free yearlong training as a nature guide. She is proud to be part of a team who train and build confidence for people of colour leading experiences in nature. She believes this offers much needed inclusivity and equality within the environmental field.
Nicole is serious in promoting conversations around the barriers for POC communities and their engagement with the natural world. She willingly promotes and co facilitates Wild In the City’s Reflections on Race Programme. She strives to build on the capacity of organisations to share and action conversations around inclusivity and privilege.
Nicole thrives on nurturing peership with like-minded POC organisations and hopes that as a collective struggles and ideas can be shared, supported, and promoted on a national level.
Nicole also practices as a psychotherapist, clinical supervisor, and tutor on a variety of psychotherapy trainings and delights in working with clients outdoors.
