Adriana González is originally from San Juan, Puerto Rico, and is currently a Field Organizing Strategist with the Sierra Club. Her work has focused on campaigns to promote zero-waste solutions, protect coastal habitats, and organize communities around clean energy initiatives. She earned a degree in Geography and Art from the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus. As an activist, Adriana has been involved in organizing around United Nations climate negotiations in locations such as Cancun, Durban, Brazil, Qatar, and Paris. Adriana led coalition efforts to stop waste incinerator construction and pass a plastic bag ban. She is actively involved in local coalitions promoting distributed solar energy in Puerto Rico while also addressing short-term solutions for communities in need. After Hurricane Maria, she organized the distribution of over 5,000 solar lamps. Adriana collaborates with local and national partners in the environmental, economic, and climate justice movements to co-create solutions to the climate and environmental justice crisis, centered on justice and equity. Her work includes coordinating efforts to monitor sea turtles, lobbying for and passing environmental policies, advancing renewable energy development, and organizing community entities for sustainable development.
