Established by Congress on August 31, 1918, Anacostia Park is operated by the United States National Park Service. Over 1,100 acres, it is one of the city’s most important recreation areas. This panel will trace the development of Friends of Anacostia Park, a community- driven friends' group that aims to preserve the park, connect surrounding communities to its restoration, and support a vibrant ecosystem.
