Kara Roopsingh is the Senior Heritage Preservation and Research Officer at the National Trust of Trinidad and Tobago (NTTT) and has worked in heritage advocacy and research for over 15 years. Her role requires leading the Heritage Preservation and Research Unit in site monitoring, documentation and research, listing heritage sites, stakeholder engagement, and working closely with local communities, local government officials and international organisations. She holds a BSc in Geography and History, and a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Geography from the University of the West Indies. She is currently the Project Lead for the 2-year grant project entitled: Resilient Heritage Trinidad and Tobago, which addresses the documentation, conservation and enhanced resilience of two heritage areas prioritised by the NTTT and is funded by the US Ambassador’s Fund for Cultural Preservation. Through sharing research, outreach and education programmes, she hopes to motivate persons of all ages to value and safeguard the unique multi-cultural island heritage of Trinidad and Tobago.
